Background

Sustainable schools - the Environment Award to develop school environments that emphasize the preservation and conservation of the environment in terms of management, curriculum, curriculum and greening.


Definition

Sustainable Schools - Environmental Award embrace environmental education to inculcate environmental values in terms of management, curriculum, curriculum greening and continuously to create a way of life which is consistent with the concept of sustainable development.

Definition of Environmental Education are:

"Learning to understand human interaction with the environment and how the environment is managed in a wise and responsible to the sustainability of life on earth. This process involves education about the environment, the environment and for the environment. "

Objectives

Sustainable School - Environmental Award is designed to achieve the following objectives:
  • Promoting environmental values among the school community;
  • Increasing the level of awareness of the school community about the importance of preservation and conservation;
  • To encourage school staff to implement environmentally effective;
  • Increased collaboration between the school and the community in ensuring the success of environmental education and
  • To create a school environment that is conducive to producing a school that practices sustainable living.

Components

Sustainable School - Environment Awards include four components:


1. Management
  • Establish the vision and mission of environmental education on the National Education Philosophy
  • Make environmental education part of curriculum planning and extra curricular school year
  • Establish a Sustainable Schools Committee consisting of administrators, PTA members, teachers, support staff and student representatives
  • To establish cooperation between the school and the Department of Environment (DOE), The School, Curriculum Development Centre, Teacher Education Division, Ministry of Education and other agencies to implement programs of environmental education
  • To establish and strengthen the collection of literature, reference and multimedia environmental resource center
  • Provide information on the angle of the environment in the classroom and the school specific
  • Spread the environmental message in the assembly
  • To provide exposure to the values to the PTA and enviroment
  • Provide adequate financing from the PTA fund to finance environmental education program
  • To organize workshops, lectures and courses to the school environment
  • To organize and implement environmental education awareness campaigns
  • To establish and implement school rules related to environmental
  • Ensure the canteen operators implement environmentally friendly practices and managing waste disposal planned
  • Plan, manage and monitor the disposal of hazardous waste / toxic waste such as waste-lab / workshop / Home Economics / Life Skills safely through the rules set
  • Provide reporting Panel Panel to ensure that teachers implement environmental education across the curriculum.
  • To give recognition to individuals or groups to contribute and participate actively in implementing environmental education programs
  • Planning activities of information dissemination to local communities to raise environmental awareness

2. Curriculum
  • Embedding values of environmental education in teaching and learning
  • Implementation of module teaching plans and learning environment across the curriculum
  • To organize programs / workshops / seminars to expose environmental education for teachers

3. Co-Curricular
  • Implement environmental education activities in the annual plan for uniform unit / club / association
  • Organize Environmental Awareness Campaign
  • Organize games or sports themed environment such as the Green Run, Enviro-Hunt, Enviro-Walk, Enviro-Bike and other
  • Provide Recycling Program

4. Greening
  • Program in the school garden / landscape
  • Program cultivation using organic fertilizer
  • Program a student a tree
  • Program of planting, cultivating and
  • Preservation of trees of suitable species
  • Demarcation of scientific and local names in a tree
  • The project to make compost
  • The establishment of the learning stations
  • Maintenance of the field

Scoring Method

Each indicator may Surveys will be given the weight factor.

Certification and the award is determined based on total marks obtained by evaluating the documents and visits to schools.
